Information, Policies, and Rules about Boarding at Diamond Creek
Farm:
Feed: In the winter we feed at 7:00, lunch 11:30 and dinner
at 4:00.
During the summer months we feed breakfast at 6:00, lunch 11:00 and
dinner at 4:00.
Grain: Horseman’s Edge, Strategy, Oats, Barley, Ultium, Beet
Pulp, Penfield Granola, Equine Senior, Triple Crown Low Starch.
There is an extra charge for Rice Bran, Alfalfa Cubes or other types
of grain. Grain that is not delivered by Rosedale Mills or
Sergentsville can be purchased and dropped off by owner.
Supplements: We recommend the pre-packaged supplements make
by Smart Pac or small Tupperware containers. They help keep the feed
room clean and organized. No extra charge.
Hay: Our farm believes that horses should have hay in front
of them as much as possible. Horses will be fed at least 2 flakes in the morning, at
lunch, dinner and night check. Our hay is a timothy mix that is grown on the farm and
locally. Alfalfa is not supplied, but can be purchased by the
owner. Soaked hay $25 per month.
Turnout: We will try to schedule a half-day or 1 hour
turnout shifts for as many horses as possible during the
fall/winter/spring months. During the summer months, the horses can
either be turned out in the morning for an hour or overnight. If it
is raining heavily/thunderstorms or there is ice, the horses will be
asked to say inside. They will generally not be in for more than
two days after heavy storms. You can turnout your horse for a short
period of time when DCF is not turning out, but you must bring your
own horse in. If you leave the property you must arrange that your
horse has a friend turned out next to it at all times. We will have
a sacrifice field. Also, if a horse is running for a period of time
they will be brought in to prevent injury and a new turnout plan
will be made. Halters can be left on or removed. Horses will not be
turned out on Christmas Day, New Years, Thanksgiving, Easter,
Memorial, Labor Day and the Fourth of July (or whenever there are
plans for local fireworks).
Boots: No extra charge.
Blanketing: Blanket racks are placed outside of each stall(4
blankets only at one time please). We will provide a change of
clothing twice a day. Fly masks/sheets are ok.
Worming: The barn manager is available to de-worm, included.
At DCF, we deworm every 4-6 weeks. Usually ivermectin, but also
during the year we use a double dose of pyrantel pamoate(Strongid)
after the first frost, and a twice a year dosage of a praziquantel
combination de-wormer. We also recommend using a 5 day
fenbendalzole (Panacur- type), purchased by owner, once a year.
Owners can deworm their horses on their own program if they would
like. If you do, please provide your deworming schedule to DCF.
Bedding: We use bulk sawdust from Ernest Tomer Trucking.
The barn manager will set a level of sawdust that will be
comfortable for the horse, easy to maintain and not wasteful.
Bagged shavings $25 extra per month.
Boarders can use any vet/ farrier they choose. DCF uses Dr. David Adams for vets and Bob Kass as our
farrier.
Medical Information:
All horses are required to have a Coggins test within the
past year.

We prefer that all medical attention to your horse be under
your supervision. If the owner is unavailable the barn manager will
wrap, soak, hose, and care for the wounds of your horse per
veterinary instructions. If the farm manager is not available it is
the owner’s responsibility to find proper treatment for the horse.
Diamond Creek Farm reserves the right to administer Emergency First
Aid care to your horse before an owner or vet is called if the
situation is grave enough to warrant.
Horses can be brought in for vet/farrier appointments if
necessary.
The barn manager can also meet with a vet/farrier if the
owner is unavailable for a fee of $10/hour.
Diamond Creek Farm is not liable for the care or death of a
horse if a veterinarian recommends that a horse be transported to a
clinic for medical care, and the owner refuses to do so. We
strongly recommend owners to obtain insurance to cover the costs of
extended or emergency medical care.
Owners of older horses, or horses with chronic medical
conditions or behaviors that routinely require additional care or
monitoring, may be charged a higher rate of board than horses that
do not require such care.
